第122回日本眼科学会総会長 井上 幸次
Welcome to the 122nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society. The meeting will be held at the Osaka International Convention Center and RIHGA Royal Hotel Osaka from April 19th to 22nd, 2018. My name is Yoshitsugu Inoue, and I am Professor and Chairman of the Division of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, Tottori University, and President of this meeting. The Vice President is Takayo Kandori, President of the Tottori Ophthalmologists Association Society. The Chairman of the Program Committee of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society is Makoto Aihara, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, at the University of Tokyo.
The Annual Meeting of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society is the most prestigious official ophthalmological meeting in Japan, and the most advanced basic and clinical ophthalmological research has been discussed at this meeting.
As you are aware, Japan is the one of the leaders in eye research; however, most of the sessions of the Annual Meeting have been conducted in Japanese. Recently, as a result of the globalization of various fields, especially science and medicine, this meeting has been opened to the world to report advanced research results, facilitate discussion among researchers from around the world, and promote future cooperation. For this purpose, the Japanese Ophthalmological Society has been increasing the number of international English sessions at the meeting.
The theme of the 122nd Annual meeting is ‘Eye research goes to the root of science’. Ophthalmology is often considered to be a very narrow and closed field. On the contrary, because it is a small field, we can dig deeper and deeper, and ultimately reach the roots of science, which are extremely wide, global, and universal.
Recently, various movements to build walls are expanding against the necessity of mutual cooperation. In this chaotic era, worldwide collaboration and friendship are extremely important in the scientific community. For this purpose, we would like to play a role, small but significant, through the 122nd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society.
