Professor and Chairman
Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science
Nagoya City University Graduate School of Medical Sciences

It is my great honor to invite you to the 70th Annual Congress of Japan Clinical Ophthalmology, which will take place at Kyoto from November 3rd, Thursday to November 6th 2016, Sunday. The congress venues are Kyoto International Conference Center and Grand Prince Hotel Kyoto. I would like you to enjoy the autumn color of beautiful Kyoto.

The main theme of the congress is ‘Ophthalmology for Tomorrow’. We would like to discuss about the future of Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Practice. We appreciate your participation to the discussion. The program committee of Japanese Ophthalmological Society has been working very hard to develop the scientific program. I really appreciate their effort to make the congress fruitful one. I would like to thank Dr. Kazuaki Kadonosono for chairing the program committee. We will have 20 symposia in a variety of ophthalmology fields. We will also have 3 sessions for the medical staffs. Honorable lectures will be delivered by Professor Tsunehiko Ikeda (Osaka Medical College) and Professor Ryoji Yamakawa (Kurume University). Two distinguished invited speakers, Professor Peng T. Khaw (Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology) and Professor Napoleone Ferrara (University of California, San Diego), will give Keynote speeches.

We will have special symposia ‘World Retina Summit 2016’ on November 3rd, the first day of the congress. We invite world experts in the field of retina and domestic speakers from Japan will join the program. The official language of these symposia is English. Four symposia are being planned; 1) Age-related Macular Degeneration - Anti-VEGF and beyond, 2) Diabetic Retinopathy - From Pathogenesis to Management, 3) Recent Advances in Fundus Imaging, 4) Cutting Edge of Vitreoretinal Surgery. The participants can learn the latest knowledge and recent breakthroughs of medical and surgical retinal fields. We also have the late breaking session for general submission. We will accept late breaking abstracts of the latest topics.

We are waiting for your participation, especially from oversea countries. It will be a good opportunity to meet your old friends and make new ones. I am pretty sure that you will enjoy the beauty of Kyoto - a UNESCO World Heritage site with a long history going back over 1200 years.
