Welcome Message

Junji Tanaka
The 43rd Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation
President Junji Tanaka
Department of Hematology, Tokyo Women's Medical University
The 43rd Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation will be held in Tokyo International Forum on March, 2021.
When myeloablative conditioning was the highest priority, I encountered a bone marrow transplant. I was able to witness the embryonic stages of peripheral blood stem cell transplants and transplants using non-myeloablative conditioning in Seattle. After that, various molecular-targeted therapies and CAR-T cell therapies were developed. New cell therapies using modified cell fractions that do not rely on whole bone marrow cells may become mainstream in the near future. In addition, cord blood transplantation and HLA haplo-matched transplantation has become widespread, and searching donors has become relatively easy, but the importance of bone marrow banks and cord blood banks is not decreasing. The vertical thread is the patient's hope of living, the horizontal thread is the donor's goodwill, and we are responsible for both of them. Our mission is to work with healthcare professionals in various fields to act as a bridge between donors and patients and to ensure bonds for rebirth.
Now we are in the epidemic of the new coronavirus, many healthcare professionals are facing an unprecedented situation in order to save as many patients as possible while fighting the risk of infection. We believe that the situation will subside as soon as possible and that we will be able to meet and discuss with you next March in Tokyo. So, we will continue to prepare for the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Japan Society for Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation. Thank you for your cooperations.
