The 80th Annual Congress of Japan Clinical Ophthalmology

Welcome Message

The 80th Annual Congress of Japan Clinical Ophthalmology
President Mineo Kondo, M.D., Ph.D.
Professor, Department of Ophthalmology,
Mie University Graduate School of Medicine
President Mineo Kondo

It is my great honor and pleasure to announce that the 80th Annual Congress of Japan Clinical Ophthalmology will be held from Thursday, October 29 to Sunday, November 1, 2026, over four days at the Kyoto International Conference Center and The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike.

The theme of this meeting is “The Long and Winding Road.”
Many of you will recognize this phrase as the title of a famous song by The Beatles. For this meeting, the theme embodies three key meanings:
  • ・The long journey of our Society, which now reaches its 80th milestone
  • ・The joy of discovery and achievement gained through years of perseverance, effort, and trial and error in medical research
  • ・A forward-looking vision and strategy, with our eyes set 10 or 20 years into the future

Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Program Committee, who fully embraced the spirit of this theme, we have prepared an exceptionally rich scientific program. This includes special lectures, invited lectures, symposia, instruction courses, and free papers, covering a broad spectrum from the front lines of clinical practice to discussions that look toward the future of ophthalmology. I am confident that the program will be both stimulating and inspiring for all participants.

In organizing this meeting, we have made every effort to ensure that it will be accessible, inclusive, and rewarding, not only for ophthalmologists but also for professionals from all disciplines and occupations that contribute to the advancement of ophthalmic science. By making full use of the spacious venues in Kyoto, we aim to provide four fulfilling days that will satisfy participants with diverse expertise and interests.

The meeting will take place in Kyoto at the height of the autumn season, when the city is at its most beautiful. In the relaxation areas of the venue, we plan to offer a variety of refreshments, including sweets inspired by Mie Prefecture, the home region of the host institution. We encourage you to register early and make your accommodation arrangements in advance, so that you may fully enjoy not only the academic sessions but also opportunities for professional exchange and the rich cultural heritage of Kyoto.

I sincerely look forward to welcoming you to Kyoto and to your participation in this memorable meeting.
