We are pleased to announce that the 131st Annual Meeting of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society (JOS) will be held in Sapporo over four days, from Thursday, April 15 to Sunday, April 18, 2027.
The meeting will take place across three venues: Grand Mercure Sapporo Odori Park, Sapporo Education and Culture Hall, and Sapporo Prince Hotel International Convention Center “Pamir”.
The theme of this meeting is “As far as the eye research can see.”
This theme reflects our aspiration to create a platform where the boundless exploration of ophthalmology, along with emerging insights and future perspectives, can be widely shared while keeping pace with global trends.
The main scientific program will feature distinguished speakers from various subspecialties. For the Special Lectures, Tadashi Nakano (The Jikei University School of Medicine) and Kazuno Negishi (Keio University) will deliver presentations. Invited Lectures will be given by Michael Repka (Johns Hopkins University) and Rajendra Apte (Washington University), covering a wide range of areas including glaucoma, refractive surgery, strabismus and amblyopia, and retinal diseases.
In addition, the key objective of this meeting is to invite leading researchers from around the world and facilitate in-depth discussions on the latest findings from an international perspective. Four “Presidential International Symposium” will be organized, featuring a total of six overseas speakers across the fields of cornea, glaucoma, uveitis, and retina.
Furthermore, two “International Symposium,” organized by the Second Subcommittee of JOS Strategic Planning Committee, will include four international speakers in the areas of retina and uveitis. The “International Crosstalk Symposium by Young Ophthalmologists” will also be held, where several recipients of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society International Young Investigator Award from the Asia-Pacific region will present their award lectures. Through these initiatives, we aim to offer diverse sessions that reflect strong international collaboration, welcoming speakers from Asia, Europe, and North America.
In addition to these programs, the meeting will include a wide range of cutting-edge symposia selected by the Program Committee, as well as educational seminars and Subspecialty Sunday sessions, ensuring a rich academic experience. A highlight unique to the JOS Annual Meeting, the “Council-Nominated Lectures,” will focus on the theme “Ocular Circulation and Eye Diseases,” featuring emerging researchers such as Yusuke Murakami (Kyushu University), Yuki Muraoka (Kyoto University), and Susumu Sakimoto (Osaka University), who will present their latest research achievements.
We are committed to making this meeting a fruitful venue for active discussions and meaningful exchanges for all participants. Together with Vice President Yoichi Sasamoto and Program Chair Tomomi Higashide, as well as our colleagues and all related members, we are diligently preparing for the event.
We sincerely look forward to welcoming ophthalmologists and researchers from across Japan and around the world to Sapporo in the refreshing spring season. We eagerly await your participation.
