Greetings and welcome to the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Ocular Circulation, being held July 17-18, 2027 at the Akasaka Intercity Conference Center in Tokyo, Japan.

The theme title of this meeting is “Ocular Circulation Summit” to emphasize an all-ophthalmology approach to circulation issues. In addition to the usual symposia on macular diseases and glaucoma, there will be two new symposia addressing the impact of ocular inflammation and vitreoretinal surgery on ocular circulation.

The Invited Lecture will be given by Dr. Seung Young Yu, Professor and Chair of Ophthalmology at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Korea. Dr. Yu is world-renown for her contributions to the fields of both medical retina and surgical retina, and serves on the Board-of-Trustees of the International Ocular Circulation Society. As in previous years, we will also have a lecture by the recipient of the prestigious Matsuyama Award, as well as lectures by recipients of the Young Researcher Encouragement Awards.

In addition, there will be a lecture given by Dr. Hidetaka Matsumoto of Gunma University, recipient of the first ever Yuzawa Award, named after Dr. Mitsuko Yuzawa, Professor Emeritus of Nihon University. This new award will be granted each year to a promising mid-career member of our society, based on proposed research to be conducted in the year prior to delivering the award lecture.

The “Ocular Circulation Summit” will feature presentations in English as well as Japanese, encourage international networking particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, and promote active participation by young ophthalmologists both women and men.
