Anita Agarwal is a vitreoretinal specialist at West Coast retina group in San Francisco and an adjoint professor of ophthalmology at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute. Dr. Agarwal received ophthalmology residency training at the Postgraduate Institute in Chandigarh, India and the University of Florida, Gainesville, followed by a medical retina fellowship at Vanderbilt and a vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at West Virginia University. Dr. Agarwal specializes in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and uveitis and has a special interest in uncommon and inherited retinal diseases. She is the author of the Fifth Edition of Gass' Atlas of Macular Disease and has co-authored numerous papers on the genetics of macular degeneration. Prof Mae-Lynn is a senior consultant ophthalmologist and Professor of Vitreoretina from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She did her fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery at The Eye Institute @ Tan Tock Seng Hospital Singapore in 2007. Currently, she is head of the vitreo-retinal unit of the Department of Ophthalmology at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, UKM, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She is also the coordinator for postgraduate studies in ophthalmology and the UKM Ophthalmology fellowship programme in Vitreoretinal Surgery. Dr. Cheng-Kuo Cheng graduated from National Taiwan University and completed his ophthalmic residency at National Taiwan University Hospital. In 1993 to 1994, he conducted research and worked as a fellow specializing in vitreoretinal diseases at Duke University Eye Center in Durham, USA.
Dr. Cheng is currently the Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and Section Head of the Vitreoretinal Service at Shin Kong Wu Ho-Su Memorial Hospital in Taipei. He has been a dedicated faculty member at the hospital since 1992. In addition, he is also Associate Professor at the School of Medicine, Fu-Jen Catholic University.
Dr. Cheng currently serves as the President of the Taiwan Retinal Society for the 2024-2025 term. Furthermore, he plays a crucial role as the Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Taiwan Journal of Ophthalmology, which is the official journal of the Taiwan Ophthalmology Society (TOS). He also serves as one of the supervisors of TOS.
Dr Carol Cheung is an Associate Professor at Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Her main research interest is "imaging of the eye", based on the concept that the eyes are the "window" to the human circulation and nervous systems. She has been working in the field of ocular imaging for >17 years, focus on development and application of image analysis techniques and artificial intelligence (AI) for studying diabetic retinal disease, glaucoma and Alzheimer's disease. Dr Cheung is a principal investigator of multiple research grants on the development and application of novel imaging techniques, and how these techniques can be used to improve clinical practice and public health outcomes. She has authored >300 research articles. She has published several landmark papers on development of AI-based technologies in ocular imaging for detection of multiple eye diseases, detection of Alzheimer's disease, and quantitative analysis for retinal vasculature from ocular images, with an H-index of 78 and citations >21,300. She is now widely considered a leading research authority in ocular imaging globally.
Dat Tran Dang, MD, Ph.D. is an ophthalmologist well-known in Vietnam for his expertise and experience in the ophthalmology field. Dr. Dat has a strong interest in clinical research in the field of medical retina as well as surgical retina. Dr. Dat holds many leadership positions in ophthalmology associations in Vietnam. He is the Vice-president cum General Secretary of the Vietnam Vitreoretinal Society. He is an active member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Ophthalmology Association. Ivana Kim, MD, MBA is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School and serves as Director of the Ocular Melanoma Center and Director of Retina Clinical Research at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. She graduated from Harvard Medical School and completed her ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear. Her clinical practice includes surgical and medical retina, with a focus on uveal melanoma. She is actively involved in clinical trials for retinal disease as well as translational research in ocular melanoma. Dr. Lai now is the Superintendent at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH) in Keelung and holds the position of Professor of Ophthalmology at Chang Gung University in Taiwan. He graduated from Kaohsiung Medical University, followed by residency at CGMH and a retinal fellowship at Columbia University in New York. Paolo Lanzetta is professor and chairman of ophthalmology at the University of Udine, Italy where he is also the director of the ophthalmology residency program and the President elect of the School of Medicine. His main areas of activity are laser applications in ophthalmology, multimodal imaging, diagnosis and treatment of vitreous, retinal and macular diseases, and cataract surgery. Recently, he is involved in artificial intelligence research. Professor Lanzetta is actively involved in retinal clinical research and is currently an investigator in many international multicenter clinical trials on photodynamic therapy, anti-angiogenic and newer drugs and delivery systems. With surgical experience in anterior and posterior segment procedures and laser treatments, Professor Lanzetta has given over 400 presentations at national and international meetings and contributed multiple chapters to ophthalmology textbooks. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) where he served as Co-Chair of the Retina Section Program Committee, and the Macula Society. Dr. Lee is the Professor of Ophthalmology and a member of the vitreoretinal faculty at Asan Medical Center and University of Ulsan College of medicine. Dr. Lee received his medical degree at Seoul National University and his ophthalmology residency training at Asan Medical Center in Seoul, Korea. He completed a two-year clinical vitreoretinal fellowship at Asan Medical Center. He joined the faculty at Asan Medical Center in 2009.

Eric D. Nudleman, M.D., Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at UC San Diego Shiley Eye Institute. He hold the Viterbi Family Chair for Retinal Vascular Diseases and is the co-director of the division of vitreoretinal surgery, and the director of Pediatric Retina at Rady Children’s Hospital. He joined UC San Diego (UCSD) after completing his fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at William Beaumont Hospital. Prior to his fellowship, Dr. Nudleman graduated from Stanford University with bachelors and doctoral degrees. He earned his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in New York then went on to Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri for his residency. Dr. Nudleman is the recipient of many prestigious honors such as the Ronald G. Michels Fellowship, Heed Fellowship, the Doris P. and Harry I. Wexler Prize, Rosenbaum Research Award, and the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology/Research to Prevent Blindness Resident and Fellow Research Forum Award. He has participated in multiple National Eye Institute and industry-sponsored clinical trials. Dr. Kyu Hyung Park had his medical degree from the College of Medicine, Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea. He completed an internship and residency in ophthalmology at Seoul National University Hospital. He had his PhD at Seoul National University and also completed his post-doc fellowship at Mayo Clinic, USA. He is one of the leading specialists in medical and surgical retina, and ocular genetic epidemiology in Korea. He published over 300 papers in peer-reviewed international journals. He serves as principal investigator on many clinical trials for age-related macular degeneration, Diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusion. He was a secretary general of the Korean Ophthalmology Society and the Korean Retina Society. Kourous A. Rezaei, M.D., is an internationally recognized expert in the treatment of medical and surgical vitreoretinal diseases. She is an associated professor in ophthalmology, director of ocular oncology service, and senior course instructor of retina service at department of ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Rojanaporn is among the first, who started plaque brachytherapy, and intra-arterial chemotherapy for retinoblastoma in South East Asia region. Adrienne W. Scott, M.D., is an associate professor of ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed her ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal surgery fellowship training at the Duke University Eye Center. At Wilmer, Dr. Scott maintains an active clinical and surgical retina practice and is the Chief of the Wilmer Bel Air clinic. Dr. Scott’s clinical research focuses on vitreoretinal diseases, with an emphasis on sickle cell retinopathy and its relationship to systemic sickle cell disease, retinal imaging, and health disparities in eye care. She is the immediate past Wilmer Retina Fellowship training program director. He is a visiting senior consultant at the KK Women and children’s hospital, the biggest maternal and child hospital in Singapore where he started the paediatric retina service. Dr Gavin also setup the first ocular oncology and brachytherapy service in Singapore. He also holds appointment as clinician scientist at the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) with a faculty appointment as Associate professor with the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School.
Dr Gavin Tan main research interest in diabetic retinopathy and has published more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals and he has major grants in multimodal imaging in retinopathy and the eye as a window to diabetic complications. He is involved in the development and implementation of a National diabetic retinopathy telemedicine screening program in Singapore for which he is currently the Program Director, and has implemented AI for DR screening into the National program. He has also developed telemedicine virtual imaging clinics, as well as various digital solutions to improving patient care.
Graduate in Medicine and Surgery from the Miguel Hernández University of Elche. She specialised in Ophthalmology at the Hospital General Universitario de Valencia and was awarded the prize for the best curriculum vitae of her graduating class;
Her professional career has taken her from the Hospital General Universitario de Valencia to the Hospital Universitario La Fe de Valencia where she currently works in the medical-surgical retina team.
Patricia Udaondo is co-director-founder of Aiken in Valencia and president of the aiken foundation. She has collaborated and continues to collaborate as a lecturer on various master's degrees and has been an associate professor at the Cardenal Herrera Oria University and is currently an associate professor in ophthalmology at the University of Valencia. In recent years she has participated in many national and international ophthalmological forums and congresses and has made important contributions to ophthalmological journals as author and reviewer. She has received several awards, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology achivement award for her collaboration and contribution to the American Academy of Ophthalmology in recent years. She has recently joined the board of the European Retina Society (EURETINA) as a representative of Spain.
Demetrios G. Vavvas is the Director Retina Service Mass General Brigham/Mass. Eye and Ear, the Solman and Libe Friedman endowed Professor of Ophthalmology and Co-Director Ocular Regenerative Medical Institute, Harvard Medical School. He has also served as the director of the Eye Trauma service at MEEI.
Dr. Vavvas' clinical work focuses on macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, trauma and complex surgical cases. He has developed new approaches for age-related macular degeneration (AMD) patients and he was first to describe transconjuctival minimally invasive surgery for repairing cataract surgery complications and intraocular foreign body trauma; now the mainstay of surgical approach for these conditions worldwide and has won the 2022 Kreissig Award for Excellence in Retinal Surgery by ARVO Foundation for Eye Research. In 2009 along with Dr Loewenstein he co-founded the Annual Fellows vitrectomy course tailored for first year vitreoretinal fellows from over 20 different programs in the nation; now in its 14th year.
His has studied mechanism of neurodegeneration and neurorregenration and has highlighted the redundant and complimentary role of RIPK regulated cell death in retina degenerations. He has also elucidated the role of lysophagy and LAMP2 in retina extracellular deposit and the role of high dose statins in drusenoid deposits in humans. He has won multiple awards, published more than 295 peer reviewed manuscripts and several book chapters. His work has resulted in 12 patent fillings with 7 issued and 5 pending.
Thomas J. Wolfensberger is Chairman of Department and Medical Director of the Jules Gonin Eye Hospital and a Full Professor at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland.
He studied medicine in Zurich and at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in London, and received his M.D. from the University of Zurich Medical School. He received further clinical and research fellowship training in the field of vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK and at Stanford University in the USA. He also holds an MBA in entrepreneurship.
His main research and clinical interest focusses on the application of microtechnology to adult and pediatric vitreoretinal surgery and in particular the implantation of epiretinal stimulators to treat blindness due to photoreceptor degeneration.
He published widely on these subjects and he is the author of over 25 book chapters as well as the editor of three books on basic and clinical aspects of retinal diseases and on the interface between the eye and art.
He has received numerous prizes such as the achievement award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as the CHIBREX, GMP and several other prizes from Swiss Ophthalmological Society.
He has also been involved for many years on the board of several professional societies such as the European Society of Retinal Specialists (EURETINA), the French and Swiss Retinal Societies, and he has been serving as the Secretary of the Club Jules Gonin since 2004.
Dr Wu is a founding member of the Pan American Collaborative Retina Study (PACORES) Group. He has authored and co-authored more than 150 peer reviewed articles, more than 60 chapters and has edited 5 books. He has been awarded the Senior Honor Award (2007) by the ASRS, Senior Honor Award (2010) by the Greek Vitreoretinal Society, Achievement Award (2006) and the Senior Achievement Award (2013) by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). In 2018 he was inducted into the Retina Hall of Fame. In addition he was the 2014 Sociedad Panamericana de Retina y Vitreo GLADAOF Lecturer, the 2017 American Journal of Ophthalmology Lecturer at the PAAO meeting and the 2022 Founders Lecturer of the SPRV. He sits on the editorial board of the American Journal of Ophthalmology, Retina Cases and Brief Reports, Journal of VitreoRetinal Diseases and the International Journal of Retina and Vitreous among others.
Dr Wu is past President of the Pan American Retina and Vitreous Society and served as the Vice-President for the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology. He is currently a member of the Club Jules Gonin Executive Committee and the Vail Vitrectomy Program Committee. He also served two terms as President of the Costa Rican Ophthalmological Association. He also served in the Board of Trustees of the AAO. In addition, he is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the Club Jules Gonin, Macula Society, Retina Society and the American Society of Retinal Specialists. Dr Wu has been invited to speak at several international meetings like the AAO Retina Subspecialty Day.
Dr. Peiquan Zhao is the Director of Ophthalmology Department, Xinhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Ophthalmology & Vision Science Research Institute, and Head of ROP and Pediatric Eye Disease Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. He is council member of APVRS, member of ICROP3 and ICO Task Force on Diabetic Eye Care and international member of ASRS, Macula society and Club Jules Gonin. He is also Board Member of Chinese Ophthalmological Society (COS), and former Vice Chief of Ophthalmology Group Shanghai Society of COS. Dr. Zhao has focused on pediatric and adult vitreoretinal diseases, both in clinical area and research, especially in retinopathy of prematurity, familial exudative vitreoretinopathy and macular diseases. He has published over 330 papers, including over 180 peer-reviewed papers. He was awarded 2015 Excellent Leader of Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, APAO Distinguished Service Award (2016) and Achievement Award (2023), State Scientific and Technological Progress Award (2nd), Shanghai Leading Talent, ASRS Film Festival Top 10 Rhett Buckler Award (2018) and Honor Award (2020), and 2022 Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award (1st).
Prof. Timothy Lai is currently Clinical Professor (Honorary) of the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Director of the 2010 Retina and Macula Centre, Hong Kong. His clinical and research interests lie in the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases, particularly polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy, choroidal neovascularization, central serous chorioretinopathy, diabetic retinopathy and myopic maculopathy. He has served as a Principal Investigator in over 25 multi-centered clinical trials for the treatment of retinal diseases and uveitis.
Prof. Lai has published over 280 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and has a Scopus h-index of 61. Based on articles published over the past 10 years, Prof. Lai has been listed as the world's no.1 expert in choroidal neovascularization by Expertscape in 2022 and 2023. His academic achievements are well-recognized internationally and has received many international awards including Nakajima Award of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) (2008), Senior Achievement Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) (2017), Constable Lecture Award of the Asia-Pacific Vitreo-Retina Society (APVRS) (2017), Senior Achievement Award of the APAO (2018) and Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology Asia-Pacific Eye 100 – Top 100 most influential ophthalmologists in Asia-Pacific (2023).
Prof. Lai serves on the editorial boards of over 10 international ophthalmic journals including Associate Editor of Eye, Assistant Editor of Retina, Section Editor of Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology, Section Editor of Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, and Board Member of Ophthalmologica. His other major leadership roles include Vice President of the APVRS, Section Head of the International Ocular Inflammation Society (IOIS), and Chair of the AAO Global ONE advisory board. He has served as a volunteer ophthalmologist for Orbis International since 2009 and has participated in multiple sight-saving programs in China, India, Bangladesh and Vietnam.
