It is with great honor and privilege that I have been appointed Chairperson of the 61st Conference of the Japanese Association for Ocular Infection. I will endeavor to fulfill my role at this prestigious conference with a due sense of responsibility. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the directors, councilors, and members of the Japanese Association for Ocular Infection for this wonderful opportunity.
The history of medicine has been marked by battles against infectious diseases, and the field of ophthalmology is no exception. Thanks to the immense contributions of the experts who have come before us, the field of ophthalmology has over the years seen discoveries of various disease concepts, development of therapeutic drugs, accumulation of evidence, and creation of guidelines. However, many unmet needs still remain in need of solutions, and infectious diseases caused by newly identified pathogens have continued to emerge. The bringing together of knowledge generated by academia is of critical importance in addressing these issues, and academic meetings thus have a key role to play in such efforts.
This year’s conference, which will be held under the theme “Reunion for the Future”, will again be held as part of a quartet of conferences (“Foursome 2025 Yokohama”), in conjunction with the 58th Conference of the Japanese Ocular Inflammation Society (chaired by Dr. Junko Hori of Nippon Medical School Tama Nagayama Hospital), the 67th Conference of the Japan Contact Lens Society (chaired by Dr. Ryoji Yanai of the Department of Ophthalmology, Tokushima University Graduate School), and the 13th Conference of the Japanese Society of Lacrimal Passage and Tear Dynamics (chaired by Dr. Nozomi Matsumura of the Department of Ophthalmology at Kanagawa Children’s Medical Center). Dr. Haruyoshi Tomita, a professor in the Department of Bacteriology at the Gunma University Graduate School of Medicine, has been invited to give a special lecture. Various other events and activities, including fascinating symposia and skill transfer sessions, have been planned.
The vibrant host city of Yokohama will be teeming with a resort-like vibe in July. I would like to extend a heartfelt invitation to you to join us at this gathering, and I look forward to seeing all attendees.
