Welcome Message

We are pleased to announce that the 5th FujiRetina will be held in Tokyo, Japan, from March 27 to 29, 2026. It is an honor to serve as President, following Professor Taiji Sakamoto, who played a key role in establishing the meeting.

The name FujiRetina was inspired by Mt. Fuji, Japan’s most iconic mountain. I visit it several times a year and always leave feeling renewed. Vitreoretinal science gives a similar sense of challenge and discovery, which the name reflects.

Japan has a strong tradition in this field, and that legacy led us to launch an international meeting based in East Asia. In just four years, FujiRetina has grown into a recognized global forum. Our most recent meeting welcomed about 1,500 participants from 32 countries, including Ukraine.

Our goals are to:
  • ・Advance retinal science in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region
  • ・Build global relationships
  • ・Support the next generation of ophthalmologists
  • ・Improve care for patients around the world

The field continues to evolve quickly, with new technologies, AI, and a deeper understanding of retinal biology. FujiRetina is a space for sharing ideas and working together.

Tokyo in late March is an ideal setting, with cherry blossoms in bloom and a vibrant atmosphere. We sincerely hope you will join us at FujiRetina 2026.

Kazuaki Kadonosono, MD, PhD
President, FujiRetina / Japanese Retina and Vitreous Society
