(Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, Kagoshima University Graduate School of Medical and
Dental Sciences President of Japanese Retina and Vitreous Society (JRVS))

We are pleased to announce that the 3rd FujiRetina will be held in Tokyo, Japan from March 22 to 24, 2024.

Vitreoretinal science is currently advancing around the world at an unprecedented pace. Although international conferences such as ARVO and Euretina provide a high level of information, they are held in Europe and the United States, making it difficult for Asian physicians to attend. Above all, long-distance air travel will no longer be desirable from the perspective of the SDGs. A further problem is that the diseases discussed in the West are not necessarily the retinal diseases that are more frequent in East Asia.

FujiRetina was initiated by the Japanese Retina Vitreous Society with the aim of creating an international forum to discuss vitreo-retinology in East Asia and create new values. The past two conferences were a great success, with 1,500 registered participants, despite the pandemic caused by COVID19. Many young physicians commented that it was especially wonderful to have so much time for discussion and to be able to speak directly with prominent international researchers. The international participants also commented that the atmosphere in Tokyo was wonderful, as well as the opportunity to meet young researchers from East Asia.

In late March, when FujiRetina is held, the city is in a fantastic mood with cherry blossoms in full bloom. Tokyo is also the gourmet city with the most Michelin restaurants in the world and was voted the most visited city by tourists in 2022. Unlike Tokyo before, prices are also traveler friendly.

We invite you to join FujiRetina next spring to learn the best of retinal science and enjoy Tokyo in all its cherry blossom glory.
