Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to the 6th FujiRetina, to be held in Tokyo from March 26 to 28, 2027.

The name FujiRetina was inspired by Mt. Fuji, Japan’s most iconic mountain. Although Mt. Fuji is an active volcano, it rises calmly above the surrounding landscape with quiet dignity and a peaceful presence.

Once a year, I paddle a canoe on Lake Kawaguchi, one of the Fuji Five Lakes at the foot of Mt. Fuji. From the still waters of the lake, I am reminded that Mt. Fuji is not only beautiful; it is also mysterious, powerful, and at times formidable. The retina evokes a similar sense: it is beautiful in its intricate structure, mysterious in its biology, and formidable in the challenges it presents when disease threatens vision. Both inspire humility, curiosity, and respect.

This is the spirit of FujiRetina.

FujiRetina is a place where clinicians, surgeons, researchers, and young ophthalmologists gather from across the world to discuss every aspect of retinal and vitreous disease. Our mission remains to advance retinal science in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region, strengthen global relationships, support the next generation of ophthalmologists, and ultimately improve care for patients worldwide.

Retinal science continues to evolve rapidly through advances in imaging, pharmacotherapy, surgery, artificial intelligence, and an ever-deeper understanding of retinal biology. FujiRetina provides an open and collegial forum in which we can share new discoveries, challenge established ideas, and shape the future of our field together.
